To get started, determine your room’s direction by pointing a compass at the window - whichever way it falls is your room orientation.

North facing

These rooms receive limited natural light throughout the day, and the light that does filter in carries a cooler, more subdued tone. To balance this, choose colours with warm yellow and pink undertones.

East facing

These rooms capture the gentle warmth of the morning sun before settling into cooler, subtler tones later in the day, offering a dynamic play of light and atmosphere. Choose balancing colours that adapt throughout the day and warmer tones for spaces most used in the evening.

South facing

These rooms are more often flooded with more consistent warm light throughout the day, making them one of the best rooms to explore colour with. If you want to balance the warmth, opt for colours with a cool grey or blue undertone.

West facing

Painting larger rooms like kitchens, open plan spaces or hallways is a great long weekend project. Two to three days

Two days

Painting your woodwork (think shelves, up-cycled furniture or DIY panelling) typically takes two days (prep included). Create a seamless look using one colour across your walls and woodwork or, let the woodwork do the talking with neutral walls and bold accents. For a slightly higher sheen on your woodwork with excellent durability, opt for our soft Lick Eggshell finish.
