Sometimes in life, it's best to keep things simple. Whether in one room or your entire house, a minimalist colour palette will promote a sense of calm in whichever space you choose to use it. In an ideal world, our bedrooms are something of a sanctuary; a place to retreat to at the end of the day that promotes restfulness and a peaceful night's sleep—all by embracing nature, tonal colours, and layered textiles. But which colour palette should you choose? Without further ado, here are some of our favourite colour palettes for a minimalist bedroom. Starting with Japandi style.

Minimalist bedroom colour palette: Japandi

Firstly, what is Japandi style? A harmonious blend of rugged Scandi minimalism and the Japanese concept of 'wabi-sabi', Japandi style is one of those decor trends that requires a fair amount of thought to make it look effortless. But it's worth it, we promise. The trick? It's all about minimalism. Keeping things simple whilst embracing imperfection. Japandi style is all about earthy, natural paint colours, not just whites and greys (check out our grey paint colours). Think Beige 02 and Beige 03 with Greige 01 and White 02. Combined, these create a soothing, tranquil feel. Something we all need a bit more of in our bedrooms. Check out everything you need to know about grey beige paint and shop our beige wall and furniture paint or our greige wall and furniture paint.

Minimalist bedroom colour palette: Scandi

More industrial and less earthy than its Japanese counterpart, Scandi interior style still has a lot in common with the Japandi decor trend. Its focus is on natural materials: the use of woods and plants combined with metals, though done to a more contemporary finish. One for the minimalist who wants a low-key colour palette accented by finishes and furnishings. If you're going to use a Scandi colour palette in your bedroom, try one of our white paints, such as White 01 with White 03, paired with the blue-sky inspired Blue 01 and a neutral, grounding Greige 01.

Minimalist bedroom colour palette: new neutrals

Then there are the 'new neutrals'. These guys aren't like all the other neutrals. They've more depth, more character. Bringing that muted look up to speed, this combination of colours is like fine, New World wine: sophisticated yet utterly modern. As Sam, one of our in-house Colour Consultants, puts it, "It's no longer just grey and white. Introduce some warmth into your home with new neutrals such as greige and softer pink tones". Don't be afraid to get a little experimental and introduce some colour. Try pairing a greige paint like Greige 01 and Greige 02 or a beige paint like Beige 01 and Beige 02 with our subtly warming Pink 01 and Green 01. All tied together with a unifying White 06.

Minimalist bedroom colour palette: monochromatic

First thing's first, a minimalist colour palette doesn’t solely have to consist of neutrals. A great way to achieve a minimalist look in your bedroom is by opting for a monochromatic colour scheme. As a general rule, a minimalist monochromatic colour scheme consists of nature-inspired colours, like variations of blue or green or red. By focusing on your chosen colour in various tones, tints, and shades, you'll create a rich, layered look that will feel sumptuous yet paired back and restful on the eye. For example, a red monochromatic scheme can consist of mainly pinky whites or soft baby pinks and then deeper reds as the accent colours. Brilliant in a bedroom.
